Stress Incontinence – Introduction

How common is it? Does the odd leak when you sneeze mean you have it? Do you have a little giggle with your friends about it?

Most probably yes to all the above right?

If not feel free to skip the emails this week you are one of the lucky ones 🙂

The statistics say that 1 in 3 women suffer with stress or urge incontinence of some sorts, I know, a lot right?

Well we think its more and here is why.

More often than not, women don’t realise what they are feeling is stress incontinence so wouldn’t put themselves in that bracket.

A common sentence uttered in our community is…

“I don’t have stress incontinence. That’s for old ladies, but I do have to cross my legs when I sneeze as I fear my pelvic floor won’t hold out”.

This, my friend, is stress incontinence and it’s not for just our lovely older ladies at all. It’s common in all ages more so with women who have had children but not in all cases.

You have probably noticed when you are in a group of women and the topic comes up, the only way we can talk about it is making a joke of it. For some reason, no-one wants to admit that it happens even though we know it does and it also seems to be something that you just have to live with if you make the choice to have children.

What’s that about?

Because that’s how it is discussed in groups, women think that this is just the way it is now and its what happens when you have children because that’s what the women around us say, friends and our mums as that’s what their mums said and what their mums said to them.


We want to stop that myth now. There are answers to pretty much everything these days but because this is not talked about, it has gone under the radar, we are planning to change that!

We want a world where you are in that same group or friends and someones says “I have managed to stop peeing my pants when I sneeze by doing these exercises. Let me show you”.

It makes it more socially acceptable that this is a problem and you can talk about it like you would talk about it if you found something that helps tone your tummy and get rid of the mummy tummy.

Why is it okay to talk about this but not about peeing your pants and the fear of going on a trampoline.

If you found this thing that has fixed your problem, why not tell other women so that they can help themselves too and we can massively reduce these statistics so you can once and for all “ditch the pads”.

Sounds great right?

A world where you can say I have a problem, any tips?

We want to get you talking which is why we created our “Let’s Talk” campaign so we can really start getting it out there and show you that you really are not alone, my lovely.

This really isn’t just for older ladies and the cold hard truth is “IT WON’T FIX ITSELF” in fact, as you age it will only get worse!

Now, don’t get us wrong. We are not trying to scare you, we are trying to help you find a new way, stop burying your head in the sand and take action so you don’t have to worry about the next time you have a bad cough or cold and what it will do to your pelvic floor or you can run for a longer period of time because you feel strong enough. Or you can jump on the trampoline and cough with no fear!

Then, when you have fixed you, get out there and shout it from the rooftops so you can then help fix other fellow ladies, including your mum do the same until it is no longer a problem, it really is never too late.
